History

While Houston is now America's fourth most populous city, things were different at its founding in 1836. Brothers named John and Augustus Allen advertised the formation of Houston in a Texas newspaper, but by the beginning of 1837 the town boasted just a dozen residents. Growth came quickly despite a reputation for wildness and several yellow fever epidemics. Houston not only survived but also thrived as the years went by, making today's gracious standard of living possible.

The modern Inner Loop area encompasses the charming cities of West University Place and Bellaire along with portions of Houston. These family friendly, tight-knit cities boost their own fire departments, community centers and parks.  With a mixture of original cottages/bungalows and new construction, the blend is beautiful.  Not withstanding these two cities within the city, many other outstanding communities exist in the Inner Loop.  The affluent River Oaks neighborhood features columned mansions along tree lined street with its exclusive River Oaks Country Club.  All these communities have easy access to downtown and maintain their value.

The Inner Loop is also home to the Texas Medical Center, the world's largest medical complex, the prestigious private Rice University, the Houston Country Club and the Junior League of Houston.
